ASUS P5E3 Deluxe (WiFi-AP @n)

The Intel X38 Express Chipset supports new technologies such as 1333 MHz System Bus speed, next-generation 45nm dual- and quad-core processors, and DDR3 memory to deliver increased system bandwidth and improved performance. This chipset also supports the PCI Express 2.0 interface to deliver two fully capable PCI x16 slots for maximum performance when operating in Crossfire mode.

In order to support the latest DDR2 and DDR3 memory types, the Memory Controller Hub (MCH) features wider buses that support Dual-Channel DDR2 at 533/677/800MHz, while official DDR3 memory support goes as high as 1333MHz. ASUS also supports native DDR3-1800 memory with the P5E3 Deluxe through overclocking. While the X38 chipset does support both DDR2 and DDR3 memory, only one type can be used at once and most motherboards will support one or the other, in this case the P5E3 Deluxe exclusively supports DDR3. ASUS P5N-T Deluxe

It comes as no surprise that ASUS were the first to provide us with an nForce 780i SLI motherboard. In fact they have already sent us two, and although we are only looking at the P5N-T Deluxe today, we also have the Striker II Formula which we hope to show you soon. The P5N-T Deluxe is probably the more well-rounded motherboard out of the two, offering users a heap of features and great performance at a reasonable price. While the P5N-T Deluxe is currently retailing for $250 US, the Striker II Formula costs upwards of $330 US.

The design and layout of the P5N-T Deluxe is very good, as you would expect from ASUS. There are no real design flaws, with the only concern being the amount of space around the CPU socket and the obscure placement of the COM1 header. Although we were able to install a number of large heatsinks on this motherboard, many of the fits were very tight, making the installation process very difficult. However despite the tight fit, we did not find any heatsinks that were not compatible with the P5N-T Deluxe. Continue reading
